Friendship with Your Guides

Part 4: Communion

As you connect with your guide’s light and in doing so relax into greater identification with your own light, the light itself guides you. Let the light teach you. What makes this simple idea so challenging is that light bypasses your familiar strategies for learning. Be patient; let the light come to you. Develop your ability to focus on what of it you find beautiful or simply interesting.  You may find your mind wants to intervene, to interpose itself between you and the view, like a child demanding attention. For mind and child this is only natural; each is dealing with a fear that without your attention it will cease to be. For your mind, carefully constructed interface between you and experience, the threat feels very real. It knows that if you choose to develop beyond its limitations, its primacy is diminished.

But the mind will not wither and die if you cease to be controlled by it. You can bring it along and teach it new ways. Give it permission to relax with you in the light, to admire the view with you. Your mind is itself a structure of condensed light. Some of its light condenses to become your brain and the many other attendant systems in your body that permit and generate thoughts. Most of its light remains non-physical, but is still sufficiently condensed to have continuity through time, which you have required in order to function in this earth plane reality. After a while the mind can begin to lose plasticity if focused too much towards the outer world, for it takes on the characteristics of what it observes.

When you encourage your mind to join you in observing the world of light it takes on greater flow and responsiveness. It gradually releases the need to cut experience into chunks that will fit its compartments. It begins to add flow to its structures so that they may more easily adjust to your lived experiences, permitting it a fuller communication with you of their richness, complexity and subtlety.

You have chosen to take on physical form at a time when immense influxes of light are refreshing your world. You are one of the means by which this light arrives and is delivered. Your guide is here to assist. Together you become a very effective delivery service. Central to this service is where your light and your guide’s light meet. In the way that you are exploring, a softening of your energy field boundary allows more meeting places. These points of connection in turn generate their own light. When that generated light becomes sufficiently present you begin to merge consciousness with your guide.

The light you share with your guide offers you a merging of consciousness that we will call communion. Communion invites you within the light, past its external display into the sea of consciousness, of which light is a primary expression. In the sea of consciousness you begin to enter oneness with all beings, and in this oneness you can find the presence of your guide. Sharing presence with your guide becomes communion.

Communion is a deeper form of communication. Much of communication involves a to and fro of energy expressed and responded to. You do a lot of this and it is very useful. In communion there is no need for to and fro; the energy shared does not require an impetus in any direction. Instead, energy is shared and out of that sharing understanding arises. Some of that understanding may translate into words, concepts and images. But much has no need to; it can be directly absorbed into your energy field, generating across time beneficial transformation at a pace that suits your own internal programme of growth. In practice you may simply discover a clarity within yourself that was not there before.

The understanding you have and the understanding your guide has from the same event of communion may be very different. Your guide has no interest in indoctrinating you and, even though you are in communion, you each have your own viewpoint. But there will be resonance, a harmony between your understandings, whenever communion occurs.

Resonance with your guide is one means by which inflows of spiritual light enter your reality. You naturally increase this resonance when you lift your focus from any habitual tendencies to judge yourself or others and adopt more fully your guide’s gift of self-acceptance. But do not be dispirited if you find, as many have, that old habits like to linger. As your relationship with your guide continues to develop, it becomes easier to recognise these old tendencies as costumes worn for a while and now a little threadbare. You do not need to identify with a costume. Its value goes when you finish playing a part, and recognise the being inside the clothes you once wore.

Communion helps you to come more fully into the present. The to and fro of communication requires a spread of time within which to function. Communion operates in a space of timelessness, even though you as participant may experience it as occupying some of your time. You can find yourself in a timeless state of communion, whilst another part of you observes the passing of time. Closer observation might reveal that you are moving back and forth between these two kinds of time. As you develop a comfortableness with being in communion with your guide, you may find a relaxation of that back and forth movement and an easing into the continuous now of your soul.

Greater presence (that is, being more fully in the present moment) also brings changes in your understanding of cause and effect. Living in a world of sequential time, it seems obvious that causes precede effects: the evidence is everywhere. As you move more fully into the now what previously presented itself, because of its location in time, as either cause or effect can be found together and refusing to so simply categorised. Being in communion with your guide can help free you from limiting perspectives. Questions may answer themselves for you for this state of communion, because you have released yourself from a previous viewpoint. Indeed in the state of communion you may find little or no sense of viewpoint. As you move out of this state back towards the outer world it may that a viewpoint comes as a way of establishing your human presence, but even though that viewpoint may be very similar to the one that preceded moving into a state of communion, it will not be wholly the same.

Communion offers a relaxation of insistence on your own particular viewpoint and this in itself makes it easier to receive guidance. You may also find that the question of whether that guidance comes from within or from your guide is less important, while it may still feel relevant. In coming sessions we will explore how understanding found in communion may be translated back into the world of time and matter.
