Part 7: Advice

You come to your guide for advice. That’s sensible. Everyone can use some help and your guides love to help you. But asking for advice and receiving advice are not quite the same thing. If you ask and do not receive an immediate and clear answer, you may feel that you have failed, or that you lack skill, or indeed that your guide has not heard you or does not care. None of these is true, but you have had some misunderstanding of the process you and your guide are engaged in.

Whatever advice your guide gives you comes from you. For ultimately all answers are known by you and are available to you. Your guide’s role is to give you what is already yours. So if you expect something to arrive in your mind from somewhere else, you are mistaken. Having said that, it may very often feel that your guide is like a friend with whom you can chat and, just as when a human friend says something to you, it feels that the message arrives from outside of yourself. With your human friend lots of evidence supports this understanding. Your eardrums vibrate with the sound waves your friend’s voice has generated; clearly this message comes from outside.  But with your guide something else is happening.

Within the sea of consciousness your guide is holding a volume of light into which you can expand, finding a larger sense of your own being. This enables you to become aware of more of your own wisdom. You then have the challenge of communicating that wisdom to yourself, of translating the language of light into one of your own many languages. For words are only one of the languages you use and, while on occasion you and your guide may find communicating in words is the most useful language, it will never be the only language you are using together.

The aim of your guide is to help you to grow in ways that are joyful for you. You engage in this process by making choices and living those choices. Some choices convert into actions. In a sense, all choices lead to actions, but many, perhaps the majority, are actions of internal change that may not be immediately obvious to you in the way, for example, a physical movement is. A great deal of your growth, and you may find this increasingly so, can come through exploring your own self. Though this may well include therapeutic processes to heal past pain, the exploration is of the largeness of your being and all healing is simply opening doors to that largeness.

Such largeness is accessed most easily through a range of languages. Sometimes your guide may find that drawing your attention to a particular emotion or feeling is far more effective than a verbal communication. On another occasion your guide may like to draw your attention to an external source of advice and you find a remark a friend makes or a sentence in a book you are reading gives you exactly what you are needing. You might find yourself drawn to a particular food because your guide is helping you to hear your body’s needs more clearly. You might find your attention drawn to two ideas you had not thought of bringing together, but in doing so they combine to suggest something new. You may feel drawn to visit somewhere and discover that the ambient energy of the place fills a gap for you. You may find that a question that seemed urgent dissolves as you ask it and your guide’s light opens up a different area for your attention. Your guide’s light may enable you to see or understand what you are asking about in a new way and so, from your point of view, the question answers itself.

A request for your guide’s advice can bring a breadth and complexity of response that initially might feel like a jumble of energies, hard to disentangle or make sense of. If so, be patient. Your guide does not expect you to be able to instantly understand the new territories that are opening up to your awareness. You might even comfort yourself with the idea that if your guide is presenting you with something you are uncertain of, then you are growing beyond the self you imagined you were.

Entering the sea of consciousness with your guide opens up new possibilities for communicating. You can begin to access multiple simultaneous viewpoints and discover different dimensions for an issue you are seeking advice about. You begin to access the possibility of reconfiguring your energy field in uplifting and liberating ways through communion with you guide in the sea of consciousness. This may move beyond anything you might identify as communication into what is really more of a shared experience that is enriching for yourself and your guide equally. The quest for advice becomes much less like a question and answer session and much more like a day out together!

We are working with you to illuminate your wisdom to yourself. Helping you develop your mental body is part of this process. Currently there is a tendency for the human mental body to be needlessly constricted. Fear has led you collectively to seek individual partitions that you can claim as your own and fortify against intruders. All this is illusory. It is much simpler and more useful to recognise that as humanity you have one mind and as individuals you have access to all of it. Of course that may mean you encounter negative thoughts you would prefer to disown. But the process of disowning takes energy that can be far more effectively used in finding the light within the mind of humanity and guiding your compassion to the individuals minds that host painful thoughts.

Accepting your mind as part of humanity’s mind is like linking computers: the increased computing power can tackle much more than a solitary personal computer. In addition you are acknowledging something important: that you are a powerful being. You need not fear being overwhelmed or contaminated with the thoughts of others. Instead you can allow that your own mind can be an access point through which the light of the Source of All may flow into the mind of humanity. This does not mean that you have to regard yourself as superior to your fellow humans, simply that you are recognising a skill in yourself that exists in all, but may not yet have been recognised by all.

Your guides are interested helping you as much as they can, but we are also interested in helping all humanity with and through you. You have great capacity to be a channel of Divine Light and Love. This function is not separate from the interactions of communication and communion that you have with your guide. In each connection made with your guide you open to the sea of consciousness. That sea is illuminated by the Central Spiritual Sun through which the light of Source of All enters your world. As you swim in the sea of consciousness you are bathed in its light. Your guide is helping you in every interaction to absorb more of this light.

What you absorb you also radiate. Your acceptance of your own light, your own Divine Essence, enables you to become an even more effective source of light for others. Now and for a while, it may be that much of the revelation of your light to yourself comes through the advice you seek from your guide. It is fine to ask your guide anything you wish. If a question is meaningful to you, it has meaning to your guide as well. Answering your questions, using whatever language is most appropriate, helps you to appreciate yourself more and as you appreciate yourself you are acknowledging more of the Source from which we all come, and in doing so facilitate the flow of Source energy through your human presence into the world you share with so many other wonderful beings.

Oaks grow from acorns. Just because the connection you are building with your guide has the potential to help all of humanity, does not mean that every question you ask of your guide must feel weighty and profound. Rest assured that your guide will always find effective and loving ways to help you through your interactions together. You will never waste your guide’s time.
