teachings from the realms of light for a life of joy

Auriga ConstellationCapella (the little nanny goat) lies about 46 light years away and is the sixth brightest star in the whole sky. Although it appears to be a single star to the naked eye, it is actually a star system of four stars in two pairs. The first pair consists of two bright, yellow giants, both with a diameter around 10 times that of the Sun, in close orbit around each other. These two stars are thought to be cooling and expanding on their way to becoming red giants. The second pair, separate by some distance from from the first, consists of two faint, small and relatively cool red dwarfs.

Capella is in the constellation of Auriga, the Charioteer, who is seen as carrying her, with two bright stars who are her kids, across his shoulders.

In one Greek myth she is the goat Amaltheia who suckled Zeus. Out of gratitude he turned one of her horns into the Cornucopia (horn of plenty) which was always filled with whatever its owner wished. In Hindu mythology Capella was thought of as the heart of Brahma, the god of creation, so here too is a sense of abundance.

This remarkable star beams out to those beings who live in this system and to those beyond like ourselves, who can tune into its frequencies, a light that combines a clarity and intensity of purpose with a great gentleness and openness of heart.

Capella

The beings of Capella have chosen to live in simple ways, recognising the value of directing as much of their energy as possible to whatever matters most to them whilst avoiding dispersing and scattering energy on whatever feels peripheral.  They place great store on this directness of being which, combined with an openness of heart, gives them something of the quality the Romans called ‘simplex’ – direct, straightforward, honest.

Capella may help us to release the unimportant, to be clearer about what really matters to us, to identify with the flow of life that sweeps through us and to easily ride that flow.  It may assist in the gathering together of energies that can be scattered by the many calls on our time into the joyful vitality that comes when we feel in the flow and aligned with our purpose.

Finding Capella

It is as if Capella, riding high on the shoulders of the charioteer, says to us, ‘Look, life is easy; enjoy the ride it takes you on.’  Perhaps the myth of the cornucopia expresses something of what our ancestors understand to emanate from this star.

Finding Capella

Capella is the brightest star in the constellation of Auriga and the sixth brightest in the sky. Auriga lies north of the prominent constellation of Orion. Look out for the two little stars that are Capella’s kids.
